Folates Mama

Folates Mama provides 400μg of vitamin B9 in the form of (6S)-5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF) using the patented Quatrefolic® ingredient — the most bioavailable form of folate available.

Standard folic acid must be converted by the body before it can be used. Up to 40% of women have a variant of the MTHFR gene that impairs this conversion, meaning standard folic acid may not be fully effective for them. Methylated folate bypasses this conversion entirely.

Folate supplementation before and during early pregnancy is recommended to reduce the risk of neural tube defects. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 400μg, at least one month before conception and up to three months after conception.

A low folate status increases the risk of neural tube defects.
